We blogged about this before, but finally had to go ahead and buy this one. This is a baby Santa Stitch outfit. With teensy Stitch ears on the Santa hat. So, if you're in Japan, you can dress your baby as Santa Stitch. Because, evidently, it's not enough to just costume the tot as Father Christmas OR a fuzzy blue alien.

Well, it's true, I mean, what do you get me for my birthday? As, I only want Stitch, and, being the greedy sort, I already buy all the Stitch for myself.

This year, the Evil Mr. Tikistitch employed an evil friend to evilly sneak me some STEALTH STITCHIES!!!! Yes, it's true. And, I have no idea how he did it. I mean, I see how you could maybe sneak a couple plushies into our house if you stuffed them into your pants or something. But this was a whole box!!! How is it possible? Especially because, as is well known, tiki hates surprises.

Anyways, lots of neato stuff, including the hand towels shown above. Also, something I'd never seen before, what appears to be a Stitch doily! I guess it's something you'd give to your great auntie in Japan if she's also into Stitch? There was a pen from an insurance company, Dai-Ichi life - I know Snoopy and the gang have been advertising life insurance here for ages, but I've never seen a Disney character involved in such a thing. Also, a bit late for Xmas, but an adorable Cutie Stitch Santa box, for keeping even more Stitchies in. Also a magnet set that includes that weird graphic of Stitch swimming. As we all know, Stitch doesn't swim, due to the whole sinking to the bottom and drowning thing. AND the monster killer set of Stitch tissues, for next time I get the sniffles.

Disney Store Update: In the Doldrums

Back when we were still collecting a lot of new American toys, Mr. Tikistitch and I considered the first quarter of each year to be some kind of a toy doldrums. After the holiday rush, one could usually not expect anything too new and shiny to show up at toy stores until Seattle's grey winter rain turned to grey spring rains.


But, if watching the Milo and the Phantom Tollboth cartoon 87 times has taught us anything, don't say there's nothing to do in the Doldrums! So, herewith, a couple of Disney Store holiday items we missed, and a few actual new things. First up is Stitch in that Nordic type sweater. (My friend James spotted this guy - thanks James!) And there's a new Stitch Xmas stocking. If you press his paw, it plays an extremely high pitched version of Jingle Bells. (Reminds me, I oughta do a Stitch Xmas stocking review at some point.) The generic Stitches (below) are things I bought to go with some more Build-A-Bear Costumes. They were 2 for $25, which I why I bought two. I had not seen the Stitch plastic cup (below) before, but they were 2 for $10 at my Disney Store, which means Boneboy had to get one as well (for cocktail purposes). And I blogged about the super adorable VDay Love Bug Stitch beanie before. He's got teensy wings, and little heart antennae!

Hinamatstitchie

Girls Day, a/k/a Hinamatsuri, is a really keen Japanese festival.  It is keen because there are pretty pretty dollies!  My understanding is that this originated with the belief that you could cast off bad spirits by sticking some dollies in a boat and casting them off to sea.  Seems like in modern Japan, though, much of the observation involves setting up elaborate displays of dollies. 

Kind of fun that a mischievous spirit like Stitch would get involved in the fun, but there have been several Disney-issued hinamatsuri toys now that include our little alien friend.  Pictured above is the Stitch an Angel set the Disney Store in Japan is featuring this year.  But, I wanted to put up a few pix of some of the other Hinamatsuri Stitchiana I've collected in recent years.

Stitchie new year!

We encountered a lot of new years themed Stitchinalia on our recent trip to Japan.  It's not surprising, as new years is a big celebration, and Japan is mad for Stitch.  The biggest collection was at the Japanese Disney Stores.  Now, usually I dislike promotions that feature Stitch + Angel.  It's not that I dislike Angel, it's just that, in the past, they've seemed a bit uninspired.  In this case, however, they've created a gorgeous, and very Japanese-themed display relating to Stitch and Angel (and sometimes Scrump) looking at the sunset sunrise (thanks, Amy L.!!).  I snapped a couple of (not very good - sorry) pictures of the display at the Disney Store outside Tokyo Disney.  My favorite piece of the bunch was probably the ceramic statuettes, but they also had, well, just about everything else, from candy to chopsticks to chopstick holders, stationery, stickers, banners, hand towels, and a couple of items I couldn't even identify!

Looks like the Disney Store in Japan is getting ready for V-Day. This Stitch plushie is a scream - from the fangs and pink tail in the back, it looks like he might actually be a Valentine Devil Stitch.
